Purpose
The purpose of the Havurah shall be to conduct Jewish religious, educational, social and cultural activities in an inclusive, egalitarian, democratic, participatory manner that embraces families and their children.
Membership
Eligibility
Any Jewish Household is eligible for membership.
Applications
All membership applications shall be submitted to the Board.
Equilibrium
As the Havurah is intended to develop fellowship amongst parents and children, the gender ratio of children is not to exceed 2:1. Applicant families that would cause the the gender balance of children to exceed this ratio will be denied.
Applications will include an agreement to abide by all provisions of the bylaws, the Havurah's rules and policies, and any subsequent amendments. The Board will determine additional application information and procedures. If the Board finds that the applicant meets the criteria for membership, the Board will accept the application.
Non-discrimination policy
No family shall be excluded from membership or denied any membership benefits on the basis of age, race, national origin, disability, or sexual preference.
Board of Trustees
Powers and Duties
The control of all the Havurah's property and the management and administration of the affairs of Havurat shall be vested in a Board. The Board shall specifically have the authority to make and enforce such rules, regulations and policies, consistent with these Bylaws, which it may deem advisable for the proper conduct of its meetings and for the general good of Havura.
Composition
The Board shall be composed of the Rosh (President), Treasurer, and Activities Coordinator.
No financial remuneration may be provided to any member of the Havurat Board for performance of their duties, except for reimbursement for expenses.
Term of Office
Terms of office will begin and end immediately after the September 1st unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Description of Board Responsibilities
Rosh
Shall represent the organization to the community at large, provide leadership and direction to the organization, chair Board meetings, take the pulse of the membership to ensure that the organization is meeting members needs and expectations.
Treasurer
Keeps track of revenues and expenditures of the Havurah, informs the Board at monthly meetings on the status of the organization’s finances.
Activities Coordinator
Organizes events (or appoints an organizer) for the various holidays through-out the year. Ensures that events include activites for both parents and children.
Election of the Board
Eligibility
Any Member Parent shall be eligible to serve as a member of the Board, with the exception of those already holding said position. (You cannot hold the same position two years in a row.)
Voting
- Voting for Board Members shall be by ballot.
- The outgoing Treasurer shall tally the ballots.
- In an election, if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the election is repeated with the two candidates with the highest number of votes. In cases of a tie, the membership may choose to have the candidates fill the position jointly or the membership may choose any other workable solution.
